The Crucible -Understanding Girls
by Jonathan Garcia
Life would be a lot easier if I could understand girls. I bet all men think the same thing. Why do girls do what they do? For example, in the play The Crucible, a girl named Abigail Williams acts like some innocent little girl, when in fact she is a lying bitch. Abigail hides her true self, so that she won't get into trouble. Now, in the book In Country, a girl named Samantha Hughes, who lives in a small town, doesn't care what people think of her. She does whatever she wants. My opinion is that girls think they can do whatever they want.
In The Crucible, the young l6-year-old Abigail lives in a town that fears witches. She isn't a witch. She is the niece of the town pastor. But she plays at witchcraft and accuses other people of it, so that she won't be killed. The story shows how Abigail thinks she can do whatever she wants. Abigail likes an older man named John Proctor and has an affaire with him, but then he later rejects her to stay with his wife. So then Abigail sticks a two-inch needle into her stomach and accuses Proctor's wife of being a witch so she will go to jail. This way she can have Proctor and nothing happens to her. So here you see how Abigail made up a lie so she could get what she wanted (John Proctor.)
Since Abigail is a pretty little girl, she feels nobody will think she is a conniving bitch. So she lies and gets away with it. Throughout the story, Abigail continues to lie so that she could end up with John Proctor. But her plans fail and she eventually ends up being a prostitute. Abigail's end was bad and she deserved it but there was a whole different ending to another girl living in l984 in Hopewell, KY.
Samantha Hughes is a whole different character. She too is young and beautiful, but unlike Abigail, she is not a liar. Abigail tried to hide herself from everyone, but that is the opposite from Sam. Sam doesn't care what any of the townsfolk think. She doesn't accuse people of sins, but she occasionally smokes marijuana and has sex. She does whatever she wants, due to her liberal upbringing by Irene, her mother and Emmett, her uncle. For example, one day Sam bought a pregnancy test for her girlfriend Dawn. She went into the store, bought the kit and everyone looked at her in a bad way, but she didn't care; she wasn't embarrassed since she felt the townspeople's opinion of her was not important. Abigail lies about what she does to avoid trouble, while Sam does whatever she wants because she is mainly concerned with the welfare of her family and friends.
Why should pretty girls be able to do what they want? They are just like everyone else, only prettier. I think, no matter what a person looks like, you can't let them do what they want. We need to look out for people like this and set them straight. It's not fair for a pretty person to get away with bad deeds while an average person gets in trouble for doing a misdeed. Everyone is equal and appearances shouldn't change that. I think we need to learn how to avoid being fooled by people with good looks.
