Native American Tourist Attraction
(Cabins Imitating Teepees)
by Arnold Wikey
This picture shows a campsite and gas station near each other. A sign at the roadside says "Eat and Sleep in a Wigwam," and the camping cabins are in the shape of Indian teepees. The photographer took this picture in Bardstown, Kentucky, a place that looks like it is in the middle of nowhere.
The proprietors of this area might have thought that making cabins in the shape of teepees would create a big tourist attraction. Looking at this picture, I think that the people who made this campsite have many stereotypes floating in their heads. Not all Indians in North America lived in teepees. But, nevertheless, the idea must have been a good one because there are customers' cars parked in front of the "cabins."
