Cold Life
(Blind Beggar in Omaha, Nebraska)
by Anthony Le
As he walks down the street, limping and wobbling his way along, he notices how cold it is. He is able to see his breath in the air float away. He keeps moving along, down the street to his corner. On the way, he notices advertisements from yesterday...radios for only $15 and meals for $3. His stomach growls as he approaches his chair.
Two men walk past him with grey coats on. He lowers his head as they walk past. His hat covers his face as well. His bag bounces against his thigh as he approaches his corner where he begs and rests. He leans against the glass behind him and pulls out his last piece of food, a candy bar. Then, in that cold moment, he says to himself, "It's gonna be another cold day in the city."
