Meeting Minutes, January 14, 2003

6:30 PM - Room 121

Call to Order: Meeting called to order by Sue Larson at 6:32 PM.

Budget: $64.60 expended for WASC support.
$2698 expended under Staff Development for staff attending ASCD conference in San Francisco.

General School Activities:

Speech and Debate:
The Speech and Debate team is preparing for an Individual Events tournament they are scheduled to attend on January 24 in Watsonville.

Newspaper: First color edition of the Phoenix was released Monday, January 6.

Crab Feed: Interact attended a crab feed for charity last Saturday Winter Formal to take place this Thursday night, January 16

Finals: This week is finals week and the end of the semester. The spring semester will begin next week.

Apple Grant: Fremont received a grant from Apple Computers for iBooks and math-development computer programs.

TV/Broadcasting: The daily bulletin has begun to be broadcast on Channel 28

School Funding: Next Wednesday, January 22, meeting scheduled at the district with superintendent about school funding.

Spring Break Trip: A field trip to Southern California for a four-campus tour is being organized, to take place during Spring Break.

Action Items:

A. GATE Funding Requests

1. Request of funding for digital still image capture equipment resources for teacher and student on-campus checkout (approx. $2430) approved.

2. CSF funding request for bus transportation and chaperone substitutes for spring field trip to UC Davis, open to CSF members and GATE students, (approx. $1250) approved.

Discussion Items:

A. WASC Accreditation

- The rough draft of the WASC report is complete. A writing team is doing the final editing to create a uniform presentation.
- A lead from the East Bay has been giving feedback helpful in the accreditation process.
- Visiting of seven members will be arriving in the spring.

B. Clark Leaving

- Graham Clark is a National Guard Army Reservist and will soon be shipped overseas for a minimum 8-9 mo. assignment.
- A temporary replacement is currently being searched for.

C. Back-to-School Night

- The second Back-to-School Night of the year is scheduled to take place on February 6. It will be set up by department, and will take place from 4:30-7:00 pm.
