Laptops
1. How do we checkout and use student laptops?
We have ten mobile laptop labs on campus. Click here to view a complete list of available laptops and for information on usage.

2. What is the present policy for teacher laptops?
All full time teachers at Fremont can request a laptop. We will issue a clamshell style Macintosh laptop or Toshiba based on availability. Teachers who wish to upgrade to an iBook with system OSX can enroll in our site based professional development program offered by the library technology teacher. We offer after school professional development spring and fall that includes the optional purchase of units through UCSC extension.

New teachers to Fremont:
New teachers are issued a clamshell style Macintosh laptop at the beginning of the school year. Training will occur at the beginning of the school year. You may request a Toshiba and we will issue requests based on availability. Some departments have made special purchases of laptops for teachers.

3. What software is available on teacher laptops?
Each teacher laptop is configured with Microsoft office applications and Internet Explorer and network access to SASI. Currently we do not have a standard electronic grading program. We have a licence for Grade Book Plus (system 9 only) and Micro Grade for Windows laptops).

Macintosh Laptops
We are currently supporting system 9.2.2. We plan to slowly migrate to OSX Panther over in 2004-2005. We are presently investigating cost for software and memory upgrades to support this operating system.

Toshiba Laptops
We would like to upgrade all laptops to Microsoft 2000 by the end of summer 2004. We will announce the process for this in late spring 2003.
