Sander Markel (1979)

Biography

As far as our research goes, Sander Markel was the first Fremont Indian to start three years at quarterback, and in those three years, he became the schools all-time passing leader. Many years have passed, but Markel’s passing stats still rate among the top ten. Markel not only excelled as a passer, but also as a runner, scoring a remarkable 12 touchdowns in 1978. Markel was honored twice as a 1st Team All-DAAL quarterback. An outstanding basketball player, Markel played on the 1979 CCS finalist basketball team, earning all league honors at forward. Markel continued his playing career at the Division IA level with the University of the Pacific.
